Camel's Milk Cheese

You would think in NYC we have everything.

I had an interesting conversation with one of the doormen from a property I manage. He is from Morocco and was waxing poetic about Camel's milk, and how every week he goes to Key Food and asks if they have it. I am sure they look at him like he's crazy. He'd like to know where to find it, and while he was describing camel's milk I was sort of grossed out. He mentioned they make CHEESE out of it and now he's got my full attention. Now I need to find some, and I can't seem to locate any in NYC.

For all of you who think you are soooo smart, yes, I've already googled Camel's Milk and Camel Cheese, etc. Apparently this stuff is high in protein, low in lactose and cholesterol and quite good for you. People who can't tolerate cow's milk would be able to "enjoy" a nice tall glass of camel's milk. Again, Camel Cheese...nice. Camel's milk...I don't know,....but ok..I'd try it if I had the chance.

I am now familiar with two Camel Cheese names: Caravane (supposed to be THE Camel's Milk Cheese to have) and Camelbert...hahah, get it? Camelbert? hahahah.....

It's made by Mauritians. Of COURSE I know what a Mauritian is. They're from Mauritius..EVERYONE knows that.... Some of my best friends are Mauritian. Jeez. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauritius )

Anyhoo...I'd like to know where to find some. In NYC or online. I don't know how well it travels, so that might be the issue.

Why go through all that trouble of finding some and having it shipped? I think you should just raise your own camels. If you breed them, you'll end up with babies to sell or make camel burgers out of. You'll make your investment dollars back in no time. Plus unlimited cheese!

You think you're being funny, but after searching for two days for some sort of importing company who handles the product for this farm....I thought the same thing. Alpacas are all the rage here. I don't know if you can milk Alpacas, they are from the Camellid family. And they have a variety of uses here. If not, then raising camels for a high end product does not seem like such a stretch. They might like Southern California/ Palm Springs perhaps.

I wouldn't make Camel Burgers. I know someone who has eaten Camel hump and I don't think it's cost effective or appealing enough to want to do....
But I would make this not just a working dairy farm, but make a Moroccan themed restaurant and spa that people would travel the world to visit. I am now off to see about the viability of milking Alpacas. (or Llamas...)

Go ahead and laugh.

Can I be your business partner?

"...a Moroccan themed restaurant and spa that people would travel the world to visit." Why would they travel the world to see your fake Morocco rather than go to the real one? Perhaps you should move there, instead. Camels are probably much cheaper there, too.

2X4-
Clearly you have a splinter up your ass from not having thought of it first.

Not that I have anything to defend but....I am the QUEEN of THEME and as a 25 year veteran of the food and hospitality industry if I want to open a Camel Ranch and Resort, it will be a huge success.
Fake Morocco? Indeed. I used "Morocco" to paint a picture of an exotic destination and CLEARLY you have no idea what people will spend for something unique. Especially if spa services are involved. I was going to give you the custom furniture contract, but you probably don't want thaaaaat....

Second, What do you suppose Las Vegas was before it became Las Vegas...Perhaps you haven't heard of the extremely successful New York themed hotel in Vegas? And the one that is a replica of Paris? And the Venetian with Gondola rides? etc...I'm sure there are others....are you with me so far?

Third, the accessibility of amenities and the ability to get to Southern California would be greater than perhaps overseas travel. There are people who might find an exotic experience here in America,SAFER and more comfortable and more desireable because we speak English.

Fourth, there is alot of consumer product possibility here. Never mind special event revenue. Everyone wants to throw a unique event. (Destination wedding, etc.)

Fifth, have you looked at what the Euro is doing versus the Dollar? Do I need to mention gas prices, airfare? I'd have everyone from EVERYWHERE coming for an incredible experience.

You can stay home. Slim and I will send you photos on camelback, or after bellydancing class, from our luxurious suites, complete with jasmine/vanilla scented bathwater. I am learning about the amazing healing properties of camel's milk...it would be wonderful in soap.

I'm just curious, are you as wonderfully supportive of everyone's creative impulses, or just mine? Because really,SOMEONE has to come up with the ideas....

I am committed to not being just an employee for the rest of my life. At some point, I will come up with the idea, that allows me do all the things I love to do and at which I excel.

I think you could use a camel's milk enema.

Wow! Did we wake up on the wrong side of the camel this morning?

I wouldn't visit your Camel Toe Inn if it was the last place on Earth!

Speaking of camel enemas, do you know where I could get one?

Very good points about theme hotels in Vegas. And since I happen to live in Southern CA, I'm here for you, should you need my exceptional business mind to help get your resort off the ground.

As for 2x4, I think you should create a new postion just for him...Camel Fluffer.

Hahhaa...I just saw this Steph, sorry. Camel Fluffer. Love it. You will get a bunch of certificates for spa treatments when it gets built. :)
